First edition of this book published by Alletz containing a selection of reflections, thoughts of various extracts from works of the Abbe de Saint-Pierre, renowned economist considered utopian. Full glossy blond calf and marbled contemporary. Back tooled raised. Part of title in red morocco. Marbled edges. Good copy. Charles Irenee Castel de Saint-Pierre (1658-1743) was a French philosopher and writer. It is considered a precursor of the Enlightenment because of the new ideas he divulged. He attended assiduously salons of Madame de Lafayette and Mrs. Lambert. It is still famous for its project of universal peace among nations, probably the first project of European unification, which inspired not only Rousseau, but the creators of the UN.
