Erasme ALBERE

First illustrated edition of a book that was originally published in 1542 in Wittenberg. 2 frontispieces and 21 engravings of Bernard Picard representing episodes of hagiographic view of St. Francis .. Cohen, Pages red and black titles. 5. The half-title in an engraved frame Picard bears the date 1733. Morocco Navy Full time. Smooth back Jansenist. Series hatch on the cuts. Gilt edges. Back slightly past. Library Binding, quite rare. Famous pamphlet, particularly violent, against the Book of Bartholomew of Pisa which highlighted the similarities between the life of Jesus Christ and the life of St. Francis. The book begins with a foreword by Conrad Badius and Martin Luther, very insulting to Papists and Cordeliers. The book is in Latin and French, he took the hagiographic narrative of St. Francis by adding him footnotes page, and extremely severe and harsh criticism. More generally, the book is a direct attack against Catholics by Protestants, accusing them of heresy, abominations, Satanism ... "For it (this book) is such that when men and devils dégorgeraient their detestable poisons all against God, they do not say more than a monk alone has dared to write "Conrad Badius. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
