First edition, illustrated with a frontispiece representing the museum, an engraved title and 114 engravings on acier.Très beautiful English Romantic binding of the publisher. Full shagreen burgundy, backs who consistently turned maroon. spine ornate romantic irons. Large decorative plate embossed on covers, with chinoiserie (temple junk crane) and framing Seed; the bottom of the plate suggesting a tissue. Plate signed Westley, London. Gilt edges. Minor rubbings on spine, edges. Beautiful copy, which is much more fresh, with very few scattered spots on the back boards from fort.L'ouvrage paper was published on the occasion of the completion of the museum in 1838 the National Gallery was founded in 1824 and was then only 36 paintings purchased a banker, collections croissèrent regular donations and government purchases.
