Contemporary red half shagreen (color restored), gilt spine, glazed calico boards double ruled in gilt, central gilt initials of Ernest Beulé on the first board, moiré silk endpapers with some spotting and staining to the margins, first original cover preserved, all edges gilt, strictly contemporary binding.
Rare inscription signed by Charles Gounod to archaeologist E(rnest) Beulé.
