Leaflet: "Ne visitez pas l'Exposition Coloniale” “Do not visit the Colonial Exhibition”
Rare first edition of this famous leaflet, published by the group of “Surréalistes,” directed against colonialism and, more precisely, the chief of police Jean Chiappe, guilty of having recently deported a Communist Indochinese student. Rare and beautiful copy despite signs of frequent folding inherent in this type of document. Text by André Breton, Paul Eluard, Benjamin Péret, Georges Sadoul, Pierre Unik, André Thirion, René Crevel, Louis Aragon, René Char, Maxime Alexandre, Yves Tanguy and Georges Malkine. This leaflet is an opportunity for the “Surréalistes” to not only denounce the French police, but also the “brigandage” initiative that is colonialism, whose 1931 exhibition glorifies civilizing virtues.
