First edition presenting well the peculiarities inherent to its publication: it does not present any capital except at the beginning of the paragraphs and it is the very first work to have been printed with the spelling of Voltaire. Our copy is full of his errata sheet, which is often missing.
Posterior bindings (XIXth century) in full red morocco, back Jansenists with five nerves, dates and places gilded in tails, flat struck in their center of large gilt typographical florets, double gilded nets on the cuts and caps, contreplats lined with blue morocco presenting a large lace of gilded frame, ex-libris monogrammatic glued on the contreplats of each volume, following guards of combed paper, all gilded edges. Binding signed Chambolle-Duru.
Superb copy perfectly set in a binding signed by a master of French binding.
