New edition, illustrated with two engraved titles, a portrait 9 figures in Volume I and Volume II at 15 or 27 prints by Monnet, Marillier, Giraud, engraved by Letellier, Dupré. The same issue features in the Oxford catalogs contains only 18 figures.
Glossy full calf binding vintage green and brown marbled. Back smooth decorated with green four irons and nets with frames and wheels. Part of title and volume number of red morocco. Roulette framing on the boards. Marbled edges. A épidermure head of Volume 1. Light rubbing to corners and caps. Some notebooks browned, some spots. Beautiful antique bookbinding.
This edition contains the death of Abel; The first browser; Daphnis. The second volume contains meanwhile various isolated parts supplemented by letters and plays. Gessner was thoroughly enjoyed in his time; renovator of the idyllic and pastoral genre, he was in the poetic genre alongside Rousseau and Bernardin de Saint Pierre.
