First edition of each volume, for which there were no large paper copies.
Contemporary half brown shagreen over marbled paper boards, spine in five compartments, the bands with gilt fillets and triple gilt compartments with gilt decorative motifs, marbled pastedowns and endpapers.
Autograph inscriptions from the author on the half-title of each of the volumes.
With illustrations by Bertall to text.
Marginal repair with small paper lack to half-title of first volume, occasional light spotting, one pale dampstain to lower margin of final leaves of second volume. %
